Native American Housing Bill Advances, Awaiting Senate Action

The Senate Committee on Indian Affairs has approved S. 5354, the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Modernization Act of 2026, which aims to reauthorize and modernize the 1996 NAHASDA law through fiscal year 2033. The bill, awaiting full Senate action, would expand mortgage options for tribal members nationwide by allowing tribal housing entities and qualified community development financial institutions to participate in the Section 184 Indian Home Loan Guarantee Program.
