AI Company Anthropic Pitches Draft AI Safety Bill to Congress

AI company Anthropic has reportedly been privately presenting a draft bill to U.S. lawmakers aimed at regulating frontier AI safety and security. The proposed legislation sets a high bar for government intervention, allowing federal officials to halt an AI model only in extreme cases involving significant damages or casualties, and only through a federal judge. The bill also suggests creating outside evaluators and designating the Commerce Department as the sole agency to seek a halt.
