Justice Department Initiates Investigation into D.C. Correctional Facilities for Constitutional Violations

The Justice Department has notified D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser of a federal investigation into the D.C. Department of Corrections (D.C. DOC) correctional facilities. The investigation will examine whether the D.C. DOC engages in a pattern or practice of violating prisoners' and detainees' constitutional rights, following numerous allegations including failures to protect from excessive force, provide adequate medical care, and maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
