Department of Homeland Security Bans DeepSeek AI Products from Federal Civilian Agency Systems
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has ordered federal civilian agencies to cease buying and remove products and services from Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek and its affiliates. The order, published in the Federal Register, bans DeepSeek products and services from civilian agency procurements and requires the removal of all existing products, including third-party offerings developed using DeepSeek implementations, from civilian agency IT systems. DHS cited concerns that DeepSeek models present 'multiple threat vectors,' including the collection of personally identifiable information, potential tracking and digital fingerprinting of users, and the risk of transferring sensitive data to China.
