DHS Orders Removal of Chinese AI Application DeepSeek from Federal Civilian Agencies' IT Systems
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has mandated the removal of the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) application DeepSeek from all federal civilian agency information technology systems. Agencies are also prohibited from using third-party products or services developed with DeepSeek implementations or purchasing from its developer and affiliates. DHS cited national security concerns, stating that DeepSeek's models 'present multiple threat vectors' and could lead to the transfer of sensitive data to China, potentially containing malware or other vulnerabilities.
