President Trump Issues Executive Orders to Reduce Housing Costs

President Donald Trump has issued new executive orders aimed at lowering the costs of single-family homeownership and mortgages. The directives instruct the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) director to reduce homeowners' refinancing costs by making the existing title insurance waiver pilot a permanent program. The order also directs the FHFA to consider waiving appraisals, income re-verification, and other documentation requirements for limited cash-out refinances, and to reduce or eliminate loan-level price adjustments. Additionally, the executive order establishes a pilot program for FHFA to proactively cancel borrowers' mortgage insurance premiums once equity requirements are met based on current market value.
