Tropical Depression Cristina Poised to Deliver Significant Rainfall and Flood Risk to Central America

Tropical Depression Cristina is currently stalled off the coast of El Salvador, maintaining maximum winds of 35 mph, and is projected to track northwestward towards Guatemala. The system is expected to bring substantial rainfall, ranging from 4 to 12 inches, across parts of El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. This heavy precipitation poses a significant risk of flash flooding and dangerous mudslides in affected coastal and mountainous areas. Costa Rica is also experiencing related weather impacts, including increased landslide potential.
