Gulf of Mexico Disturbance Monitored for Tropical Storm Development and Flood Risk

A low-pressure system in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico is currently under observation by the National Hurricane Center. There is a 50% chance of this system developing into a tropical storm within the next seven days, potentially requiring tropical storm watches or warnings. Regardless of its classification, widespread heavy rainfall and a high risk of flooding are anticipated for coastal areas of Texas and Louisiana. The Weather Prediction Center has issued a Moderate Risk for excessive rainfall across the Texas Gulf Coast and into parts of Louisiana and Mississippi for Tuesday.
