US Wildfire Preparedness Level Elevated as Fires Rage Across Western States

The National Interagency Fire Center has raised the national preparedness level to 3 due to extensive wildland fire activity in the Western US. Currently, 28 large uncontained fires are burning, committing nearly 5,000 personnel. Critical fire weather conditions, including extreme heat and low humidity, are exacerbating fire behavior in regions like the Great Basin and Southwest.
