US Wildland Fire Preparedness Level Rises to 3 Amid Active Fires

The National Preparedness Level for wildland fires in the U.S. has been elevated to 3 due to ongoing significant fire activity across several regions. Firefighters are currently managing 31 large fires nationwide, with the South Fork Fire in Nebraska being the largest at nearly 40,000 acres and 90% contained. Warming and drying trends are expected to create critical fire weather conditions in parts of the southern Intermountain West.
