Extreme Heat Alerts Issued Across 31 U.S. States, Heat Index Up to 46°C (115°F)
A prolonged and dangerous heat wave is forecast across much of the central and eastern United States through at least July 10, with heat index values reaching 38-43°C (100-110°F) and locally up to 46°C (115°F). Widespread Major to Extreme HeatRisk is expected across the Lower Great Lakes, Mississippi and Ohio valleys, and the Mid-Atlantic through July 4. Extreme Heat Warnings are in effect for parts of Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois (Cook County), and western Kentucky, with concerns about a lack of overnight relief.
