Effective July 1, 2026, the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) will assume responsibility for riverine flood forecasts and warnings in Greater Melbourne. This change aims to provide timely and reliable flood warnings consistent with services across the rest of Australia, utilizing new rainfall and river data, models, and tools. The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) will continue to issue localized community flood warnings.
