Tropical Storm 09W Expected to Intensify to Category 4 Super Typhoon, Threatening Marianas
Tropical Storm 09W, previously Invest 95W, was upgraded to a Tropical Storm early on July 1st. It is located approximately 1,100 miles east-southeast of Guam, moving northwest at 15 mph with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph. Rapid intensification is expected, with numerical models indicating a potential passage of a tropical cyclone through the Marianas (Guam, Rota, Tinian, and/or Saipan) late Sunday into Monday (July 5-6) at Category 4 super typhoon strength. There are currently no tropical cyclone watches or warnings in effect for Guam.
