France Issues Red Vigilance for Heatwave in 9 Departments, Orange for 76 Others

France is experiencing its third heatwave of 2026, with Météo-France placing nine departments in western France under red vigilance for extreme heat starting Friday, July 10, 2026. An additional 76 departments are under orange vigilance. Temperatures are expected to reach 39-40°C from Poitou-Charentes to Pays de la Loire, and 37°C in Paris. The severe and prolonged heat episode is anticipated to continue through the weekend of July 12-13, with a new temperature increase expected on Sunday.
