Dangerous and Widespread Heat Wave to Affect Western and Central US, Elevating Fire Risks
A significant and dangerous heat wave is forecast to spread across the Intermountain West and Plains, starting July 10, 2026, and lasting at least a week. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 43°C (110°F) in some areas, with widespread Major to Extreme HeatRisk. Record triple-digit highs are anticipated in Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Elevated fire weather conditions are also expected across the southern and western Great Basin, northern Arizona, northwestern New Mexico, far southwestern Colorado, northeastern California, and much of the Inland Northwest.
