Orange Heatwave Vigilance Continues Across Mediterranean France, Elevating Wildfire Risk
Météo-France has maintained an orange heatwave vigilance for seven Mediterranean departments in southeastern France, including Var, Alpes-Maritimes, Corse-du-Sud, Gard, Bouches-du-Rhône, Haute-Corse, and Hérault. Temperatures are expected to approach 39°C, with localized peaks reaching 38-39°C in the interior of Var, Alpes-Maritimes, and Corsica. This severe and durable heatwave persists, leading to elevated public health risks and an increased danger of wildfires across Provence, Languedoc, and the lower Rhône Valley. Cooler air is mitigating conditions in northern regions, and thunderstorm activity is developing in eastern France.
