Japan Issues Widespread Heatstroke Alerts as Temperatures Exceed 40°C

Japan is experiencing a severe and life-threatening heatwave, with temperatures topping 40 degrees Celsius in several cities, including Kuwana (40.6°C), Mino (40.1°C), Hamamatsu (40.1°C), and Tajimi (40°C). The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued heatstroke alerts for much of the country, covering 41 to 42 of Japan's 47 prefectures, and has introduced a new "kokushobi" (brutally hot day) category for days reaching 40°C or higher. Authorities urge residents to use air conditioning, hydrate, and avoid prolonged outdoor activities.
