Flash Flooding and Severe Thunderstorms Likely for Northeast US

A slow-moving low-pressure system is expected to bring multiple rounds of heavy showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, with potential for life-threatening flash flooding and isolated severe thunderstorms. Total rainfall could average 3-5 inches, with isolated totals up to 7 inches in parts of northeast New Jersey, the Lower Hudson Valley, and southwest Connecticut. Damaging wind gusts of 60-70 mph are possible, mainly west of the Hudson River. A Flood Watch is in effect until 8 PM Wednesday, and a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 8 PM Tuesday for NE NJ, Orange, and Rockland Counties.
