Typhoon Dolphin Intensifies to 'Very Strong' Category, Tracks Towards Okinawa and Amami

Japan's Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued an alert for Typhoon Dolphin, the 13th storm of the season, which has strengthened to a 'very strong' category. As of 12:45 PM on August 1, 2026, the typhoon was located near Minami-Tori-shima, moving west-north-west. Forecasters anticipate the typhoon will approach Okinawa and the Amami island chain from August 6th onwards, bringing storm-force winds, heavy rainfall, and rough seas.
