WMO Warns of Intensifying Strong El Niño, Expects Global Above-Normal Temperatures and Rainfall Shifts

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has warned that a strong El Niño is developing and is expected to intensify during August-October 2026. This will likely lead to above-normal temperatures across much of the world and significant shifts in rainfall patterns, increasing the risk of droughts, floods, and wildfires in many regions.
