France Issues Widespread Heatwave and Thunderstorm Alerts

Météo-France has placed 46 departments across France under meteorological vigilance for August 8, 2026, due to heatwave conditions and thunderstorm risks. Twelve departments in the Southeast and Rhône Valley are under an Orange alert for extreme heat, with temperatures up to 32°C, while 34 others face Yellow alerts for heat, with 17 also at risk of storms. These conditions pose significant health risks, especially for vulnerable populations, and could disrupt transportation and outdoor activities.
