Cold Front Brings Damaging Winds, Rain, and Flood Risk to Southern Australia

A vigorous cold front is moving across southern Australia, expected to bring damaging winds, widespread rain, and potential flooding throughout the weekend of August 8-9, 2026. The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe weather warnings for damaging winds, showers, and thunderstorms, affecting Western Australia's southern coastline on Saturday, and extending to parts of South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales on Sunday. An initial flood watch is also in effect for river catchments in Victoria and New South Wales.
