Europe Braces for Fifth Heatwave of Summer with Temperatures Nearing 40°C; Drought Conditions Worsen in UK and France

Much of Europe is preparing for another intense heatwave, with temperatures forecast to reach up to 36°C (96.8°F) in the UK and 40°C (104°F) in southeastern France. An amber heat health alert is in place for most of England, and the Met Office is considering a rare red warning. Drought conditions are severe across half of England and all of Wales, affecting water supplies for over 27 million people. Météo-France has issued a yellow heatwave alert for Paris, with temperatures potentially hitting 38°C (100.4°F). Germany's Deutscher Wetterdienst also maintains a heat warning for the week. These extreme temperatures are exacerbating drought, increasing wildfire risks, and posing significant public health and agricultural challenges.
