Europe Braces for Another Scorching Heatwave, Worsening Drought Conditions and Increasing Wildfire Risk

Much of Europe is preparing for its fifth heatwave since June, with extreme heat warnings in place for swathes of Britain and France. Temperatures are forecast to reach mid-30s C in the UK and approach 40C (104F) in southeastern France, according to the Met Office and Météo-France. This intense heat is exacerbating record drought conditions, driving rivers to historic lows, and increasing wildfire danger in Greece and Spain. Unusually high temperatures are also expected in Switzerland, Austria, and Hungary. The UK Met Office has issued an amber heat health alert for most of England.
