Eastern Japan Experiences Fatal Flooding and Widespread Disruptions from Record Rainfall

Record rainfall has caused severe flooding, power outages, and at least five deaths in eastern Japan, particularly in Chiba Prefecture. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued and later downgraded its highest-level heavy rain warning, but further rain is forecast, maintaining risks of landslides and storm surge across several prefectures.
