Extreme Heat Warnings Persist Across Southern US and Parts of Europe

An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for all of central Alabama from 9 pm Sunday, August 16, through 9 pm Monday, August 17, with a statewide Heat Advisory. Dangerous heat with heat index values up to 110 degrees is expected across Florida, where a heat advisory is in effect from 11 am to 7 pm on August 17. Houston, Texas, also faces a continuing heat wave with temperatures climbing towards 100°F. In Europe, France maintains heatwave alerts in six southeastern departments on Monday, August 17, with temperatures expected to ease later in the week. The UK Met Office has extended a yellow heat health alert for the South East, South West, and London until Tuesday morning, despite forecasts for cooler, wetter conditions.
