National Wildfire Update: 93 Large Fires Active Across U.S., High Fire Potential in West

As of August 26, 2026, 93 large wildfires are actively burning across the United States, with 22,356 firefighters and support personnel assigned. High-risk significant fire potential is forecast for Idaho, western Montana, the northern Great Basin, inland Pacific Northwest, and the Sierra Front due to isolated to scattered mixed wet/dry thunderstorms, breezy winds, and above-normal temperatures. Critical fire conditions are also expected across East Texas into Louisiana.
