The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced on August 26, 2026, its intention to extend weather forecasts from the current seven days to two weeks by 2030. This initiative is aimed at improving preparedness for extreme weather events, such as record heat and deadly rains, which are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change.
