Deadly Flash Floods in Nepal and Tibet, New Flood Warnings Issued as Barrier Lake Threatens Downstream Areas

Devastating flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border have resulted in at least 472 deaths and over 1,400 missing. China has issued a Level-IV flood alert due to a newly formed barrier lake near the confluence of the Chhochen Khola and Purepu Tsangpo rivers, which holds approximately 2 million cubic meters of water and poses a high risk of breaching. This could send floodwaters downstream, causing further damage while rescue operations are ongoing.
