Tropical Storm Karina Strengthens in Eastern Pacific, Hurricane Status Expected

Tropical Storm Karina has intensified to 50 mph in the Eastern Pacific, moving west-northwest offshore southwest Mexico. Forecasters anticipate it will become a hurricane this weekend. The storm is expected to generate dangerous swells, posing life-threatening surf and rip current risks along parts of Mexico's southwest coast and the Baja California Peninsula.
