Tropical Storm Karina Expected to Strengthen, Could Become Major Hurricane

Tropical Storm Karina, located southwest of the Baja California Peninsula, maintains 65 mph (100 km/h) maximum sustained winds and is moving northwestward. Strengthening is forecast, with Karina expected to become a hurricane over the weekend and potentially a major hurricane early next week. Swells generated by Karina will affect portions of the coast of southwest Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula, causing life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
