Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Risk Across US Southwest

A Slight Risk of severe thunderstorms is forecast for parts of the northern Great Basin, northern/central Rockies, and northern Plains on Saturday, August 29, 2026, with severe wind gusts as the main threat. Additionally, scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms capable of producing heavy rain, hail, frequent lightning, and gusty winds are expected across western and northern Arizona and southern Utah. A Flood Watch has been issued for Yavapai County, Gila County, and Oak Creek and Sycamore Canyons through early Sunday morning. The Weather Prediction Center has also issued a Mesoscale Precipitation Discussion for heavy rainfall and possible flash flooding across northern and central Utah, southwest Wyoming, northwest Colorado, and east-central Nevada.
