Hurricane Karina Intensifies in Eastern Pacific, Forecast to Reach Major Status

Hurricane Karina has intensified to a Category 1 storm in the Eastern Pacific, with sustained winds of 80 mph. Forecasters anticipate it will reach major hurricane status within a day. Although not expected to make landfall, the storm is projected to generate dangerous surf and rip currents along coastal areas of southwest Mexico and the Baja California Peninsula.
