Hurricane Lowell Remains a Major Category 3 Hurricane, Approaching Hawaiian Islands

Hurricane Lowell, a Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 125 mph, is located several hundred miles south of the Hawaiian Islands and is expected to make its closest approach to Kauaʻi County early next week. Swells generated by Lowell are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions across many Hawaiian islands. Some re-strengthening is forecast in the coming days.
