Heatwave alerts extended in Southern France with temperatures expected to reach 40°C

Météo-France has extended orange heatwave alerts for seven departments in Southern France (Ardèche, Aude, Drôme, Gard, Hérault, Pyrénées-Orientales, and Vaucluse) and yellow alerts for several others. Temperatures are expected to reach 36-38°C, with local highs of 39-40°C in inland Languedoc. The heat is expected to persist through the weekend, with warm nights. This follows the summer of 2026 being confirmed as the hottest on record in France.
