Hurricane Lowell, a Category 4 Storm, Threatens Hawaii with Heavy Rain, Strong Winds, and Coastal Flooding

Hurricane Lowell, currently a Category 4 hurricane with sustained winds of 105 knots (120 mph) and gusts to 130 knots, is expected to significantly impact Hawaii as it turns northward. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued warnings for heavy rain, strong winds, flash flooding, mudslides, and coastal flooding, with water levels potentially reaching up to 3 feet above ground in Kauai County. Life-threatening surf and rip currents are also anticipated. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Kauai County, and a hurricane watch for parts of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.
