Japan Meteorological Agency issues highest-level landslide warning for Niijima Island amid heavy rains.

Japan's weather agency (JMA) has issued a Level 5 Emergency Warning, its highest-level landslide warning, for Niijima Island. This follows a record 381 millimeters (15 inches) of rain falling over the last 24 hours. Level 4 landslide alerts are also in effect for parts of Chiba and Saitama prefectures, neighboring Tokyo, and the central part of Fukushima prefecture, as heavy rains continue across eastern Japan.
