Hurricane Warning Issued for Kauaʻi and Niʻihau as Hurricane Lowell Approaches Hawaii

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Kauaʻi and Niʻihau, with rainbands from Hurricane Lowell spreading over Kauaʻi and Oʻahu. Hurricane-force winds extend up to 60 miles from the center, and tropical-storm-force winds up to 175 miles. Additional rainfall totals of 6 to 10 inches are expected for Kauaʻi, with up to 14 inches possible, leading to significant flash flooding and mudslides. A High Surf Warning is also in effect for the Big Island's south-facing shores, with surf of 12 to 16 feet forecast.
