National Interagency Fire Center Reports 64 Large Wildfires and High Fire Potential Across US

The National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported 89 new wildfires and 64 large ongoing fires nationwide on September 8, 2026. Moderate to high-risk significant fire potential is forecast across the southern Plains, extending into Oklahoma, Arkansas, Mississippi, Wyoming, and southeastern Montana due to high temperatures, low humidity, and breezy winds.
