Heavy Rain and Landslide Warnings Issued for Parts of Eastern Japan
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued special landslide warnings for islands south of Tokyo, including Oshima, where over 580 millimeters of rain fell in 24 hours. Level 4 landslide alerts are also in effect for parts of Chiba and Saitama prefectures, neighboring the capital. Heavy rainfall is disrupting train services and causing some school closures in eastern Japan, including Tokyo. Warnings for heavy rain and landslides are expected to continue intermittently through Thursday in many areas of the country, including Aichi Prefecture, which is hosting the Asian Games.
