Heavy Rain Triggers Landslide Warnings and Flooding in Eastern Japan

Eastern Japan, including Tokyo, experienced heavy rainfall on September 10, 2026, leading the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) to issue a special landslide warning for Oshima after over 580 millimeters of rain fell in 24 hours. A Level 4 landslide alert was also issued for parts of Chiba and Saitama prefectures. The heavy rain caused train disruptions and school closures, and one fatality was reported in Iwaki due to a submerged car.
