Japan Meteorological Agency Issues Heavy Rain and Landslide Warnings, Disrupting Travel
Heavy rainfall has impacted eastern Japan, including Tokyo, prompting the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) to issue special landslide warnings for Niijima, Oshima, and Toshima islands, south of Tokyo, after over 580 millimetres of rain fell on Oshima in 24 hours. A level 4 landslide alert is in effect for parts of Chiba and Saitama prefectures. The severe weather has led to disruptions in train services and school closures, affecting more than 140,000 people in the Tokyo metropolitan area.
