Southern Plains and Mid-South brace for extreme heat and severe storms

Parts of the Southern Plains and Mid-South U.S. are facing dangerous heat and humidity, with heat index values projected to reach 105-109°F in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and western Tennessee. Heat Advisories are in effect through Saturday afternoon. Concurrently, isolated severe thunderstorms are anticipated across Oklahoma, bringing threats of damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and golfball-sized hail, which could impact public safety and property.
