Japan Meteorological Agency Raises Volcanic Alert for Mt. Tokachidake to Level 3

The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has raised the volcanic alert level for Mount Tokachidake in Hokkaido to Level 3, which bans entry to the 2,077-meter mountain. Volcanic activity has intensified, raising the possibility of an eruption, with warnings of large volcanic rocks within approximately 3 kilometers of the crater. Evacuation orders have been issued for the Fukiage Onsen area, and vulnerable residents in the Tokachidake Onsen area are advised to evacuate.
