Hurricane Nolo Strengthens to Category 3 in Remote Pacific, Tropical Storm Warning Issued
Hurricane Nolo has intensified into a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph (185 kph) in the remote Pacific Ocean, west of Hawaii's main islands. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, a federally protected area, where large surf associated with Nolo is expected to inundate some low-lying atolls. The hurricane is moving westward at 17 mph (28 kph) and is expected to cross the international date line on Sunday.
