Extremely Powerful Typhoon No. 22 Nears Japan, Special Emergency Warning Considered
Japan's Meteorological Agency (JMA) is considering issuing a rare special emergency warning as Extremely Powerful Typhoon No. 22 (also referred to as Nanmadol and Choi-wan) approaches the Izu Islands south of Tokyo. The typhoon, with a central pressure of 935 hPa and winds up to 252 kph, poses risks of unprecedented storms, high waves, storm surges, and record rainfall. Residents are urged to evacuate early. Waves around the Ogasawara Islands are expected to reach up to 8 meters through October 6.
