World military expenditure climbed to an unprecedented $2.887 trillion in 2025, marking the eleventh consecutive year of growth. This 2.9 percent real-term increase from 2024 was primarily fueled by significant spending hikes in Europe and Asia, even as the United States saw a decrease. The combined outlays of the USA, China, and Russia constituted more than half of the total global expenditure, reflecting ongoing shifts in international security priorities.
