US Defense Secretary to Advocate for Higher NATO Defense Spending

The U.S. Defense Secretary is scheduled to attend a NATO defense ministers' meeting in Brussels. During this meeting, he plans to urge European allies to significantly increase their defense spending to 5% of GDP and strengthen their industrial base. The objective is for these allies to take on primary responsibility for non-nuclear security in Europe.
