Afghanistan continues to experience a severe humanitarian crisis, with nearly half its population, over 21.9 million people, requiring emergency assistance in 2026. Widespread food insecurity affects 13.78 million people, and 3.7 million children under five are malnourished. Despite these urgent needs, the 2026 Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan remains significantly underfunded, threatening to widen the gap between aid requirements and availability.
