Over 500 Rohingya Feared Dead in Recent Shipwrecks Off Myanmar
More than 500 people are feared to have died in two separate shipwrecks off the coast of Myanmar since late June. The vessels were reportedly carrying Rohingya refugees, with one boat believed to have carried about 250 people losing contact shortly after departure, and a second boat with approximately 280 people thought to have sunk. If verified, these tragedies would significantly increase the number of reported deaths in the Andaman Sea and Bay of Bengal this year.
